Gladatorial Events

[ o.o.c. info follows the post]

Great citizens of Blackspire be made aware:

I have formed a Ludus/Gladiatorial House in the Southern Land of Iron Keep for the proliferation of combat and entertainment amoung the people. I shall, along with my two first gladiators, attempt to delight and excite your people with a showing of physical prowess, violence, and spectacular drama.

For now, this Ludus will remain un-named.

I shall present to you my two first fighters!

Erg, Master of Peasants!

He has placed well in several larger tournements, and took Weaponmaster in Winter of '08. He often wins or places himself as a high-level winner in his home-land of Iron Keep. Erg is skilled with many weapons, and it will please the crowd much to see him weild them all with destructive grace. Though Erg is not well travelled, his name will reach outside his home soon.

I Also present to you, Lord E!

He is well known as Bacon, but little is it known the cut of meat he prefers slicing best is Long Pork. He placed 1st in this past Warmaster's Sword and Board bracket, and took 4th place over-all. Lord E is well skilled with flourentine, and has recently proven adept with the sword and board. He looks forward to making his name in front of a cheering crowd perfecting his art with other items of death.

To all those interested, I will be attempting to arrange fights as travel permits, and will display them as honored fights to dignitaries at our festivals if others wish to step forth. I may offer prizes for those willing to fight a random battle between these two men.

Those captured in raids may also be looked at and asked if they will join as fighters, if they believe that they have what it takes.

I call out to others--will you do the same?

[o.o.c. Yes, I've been watching Spartacus: Blood and Sand. It's cheesy, but oh well. This will be a layer of role-play added to fighting. Erg and Lord E seem to agree. As time progressess, I will be arranging fights with prizes if possible, as fundraisers, and will be "taking gladiators" durring raids. These fights can be armoured, partially armoured, un-armored, set with matched weapons, or by weapon draw. We could also place 2-3 fighters against "beasts" (monsters) for a spectacular showing.

While I need to do some research, I believe that raffle-tickets could be purchesed as gambling slips to be wagered, with the tickets being worth prizes at the end of a match,]

Mithril Hills will pit her gladiators against yours anytime! If this challenge it accepted, I say it be done in the most entertaining way possible!

All gladiators will get two points natural armor in addition to any they wear. Fights wouldn't be fun if your gladiators died to quickly. Will you perchance be at our coming celbration in April? If so, I say we have an exhibition there! To the winner goes wine, to the loser goes dead gladiators!

I will offer my services as a healer to heal wounded gladiators, NOT dead ones... That wouldn't be fair.

As things evolve, I can see people battling thier "gladiators" against each other as 1v1, 2v1, or 2 vs. a monster. Caster duels could persist, as well as a lot of other things.

Whomever gets on-board with this can help set up the events, rules, and so forth.

This would be best militia style. That or in true Gladiatorial style, The fighters draw their class, level, or Monster randomly. I.e. Player one draws a scout at 4th level, and player two draws a brownie at 2nd level. Then they have to figure out how to win (or loose) with style. Gladiators are jusdge both on style and victory condition.

Not all your ideas are good, but I actually like this one. Sounds like fun... unless you draw 1st level monk vs a 6th level dragon.
There of course would have to have some limitations as to what levels, classes, and monsters are to be pulled out. For example, I could see some players get offended if someone who had not gained their knighthood drew and played a paladin or a pheonix or something like that.

For limitations it would probably be best with something like. Standard Class battle no white belt classes. Standard class vs monster or pali/anti pali vs blank. this way it can be hyped a bit. And you draw the class stuff a few days/weeks before so people have time to gather garb and do some class research. just no telling the other guy what he is fighting. This way you know your class, but cant find the fastest way to kill blank.

I see it now.

Hear ye Hear ye. This weekend at (fill in park) A fighter from Le duche tassa stables takes on monster come see who and what fights!! Who will win this epic battle? Will it be Joe- Bob or IT?! Come watch the blood, the gore, the running away IF YOU DARE!!!

something like that.

Who said Gladiatorial fights were fair? While its true that a 1st level monk has little chance against a dragon, a creative player could have fun trying, and a good role player could make the crowd have fun watching it. I mean, the christians had NO chance against the Lions in rome, but they did their best, and the crowd LOVED it.

And while I agree that some limits may have to be put on some things, anyone who is offended by the word Paladin being pulled from a hat and played by a random player perhaps doesn't deserve their belt yet.... Of course I'm one who thinks Knights are silly anyway.

(no my pagan ass does not endorse feeding christians to lions. I'm just making a historical and logical point)

I didn't say fair. I never said fair. I said "fun". I don't think it would be all that fun for me if I drew a 1st level goblin and had to fight a 6th level dragon, unless there was a time limit that allowed for a draw. Then it might be fun to run away for an allotted time.
